The Ridge Golf Club
When you’re driving through the charming, little village of Chittenango, the first thing that comes to mind is obviously, The Wizard of Oz. Well, if you are ever in that area, I suggest you leave the yellow brick road and visit a place slightly off the beaten path, called The Ridge Golf Club. You will travel down a gravel road and if you’ve never been there, after about two minutes, you will wonder if you’re going the right way. Just follow the signs and I promise you won’t be disappointed. The name could not be more perfect, as it sits atop a ridge, providing a fantastic view of the golf course, below. Sisters, Melinda Sorrentino and Melissa Spicer teamed up to bring us this fine golf and dining experience in 2011. It is also a recreational home for their nonprofit organization, Clear Path for Veterans.
Once you walk through the doors, you will be welcomed by a rustic, comfortable atmosphere. On chilly days, a fire will be burning in the center of the dining area and on warm days, you can sit at the bar, eat in the dining area, relax in one of the love seats in the lounge area or better yet, sit out on the second story deck overlooking the beautiful course of The Ridge Golf Club. If you’re thinking that “golf club” means stuffy or snobby, you couldn’t be more wrong, in this case. The Ridge provides a relaxing experience for all walks of life. As we sat down at our table next to the fire, we couldn’t help but notice the diverse clientele at the bar. The customers ranged from an older gentleman in a business suit, to a young, professional couple, right down to a young man in jeans and work boots.
Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. The menu at The Ridge, much like the scenery, changes with the seasons, while always keeping bacon as one of its staples. Who doesn’t love bacon?! First off we ordered our drinks: a nice Cabernet for my photographer, Staci and since bourbon is a passion of Melinda, they offer a huge selection of that quintessential American spirit. I ordered a bourbon flight (three samples of some of the finest American bourbons) and enjoyed every sip in front of the fire. Presentation is big at The Ridge. Amazing looking and tasting salads were the first to arrive, followed by our appetizer; a big, delicious crab cake for two as well as fresh bread and spiced dipping oil. Then, the entrees arrived in a very timely fashion. Ridgies (The Ridge’s take on Riggies), a very tasty pasta dish with a sauce that will make you want to finish the entire huge portion, even after you decide that you can’t eat another bite. I had a mouthwatering, pan seared cod with couscous and sautéed green beans. Everything was cooked to perfection! Even though we were full from the large portions, we couldn’t help but partake in a delectable chocolate chip, banana bread pudding. Everything tasted as good as it looked!
Be sure to check out The Ridge Golf Club when you get a chance. If you’re not into golf but gorgeous scenery, bourbon, bacon or great food, then come to The Ridge for fine local entertainment. A great supporter of local music, The Ridge features entertainment two nights a week. Also, they host several music festivals, including the ever growing Ridgestock and their Bacon and Bourbon Festival, that will take place on June 5th of this year, which is a celebration of bacon, bourbon and local music, as well as being a fund raiser for Clear Path for Veterans. There’s something for everyone at The Ridge Golf Club.
