‘Switch Your Thinking’ with Dan Heath at SUNYIT
The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc.’s fourth annual Corporate Partners-sponsored Speaker Series will feature “New York Times” bestselling author Dan Heath beginning with a pre-event at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at SUNY Polytechnic Institute Wildcat Fieldhouse. Heath’s lecture begins at 7 p.m. Space is limited and free tickets must be reserved at www.switchyourthinking2014.com.
“Our Corporate Partners-sponsored Speaker Series continues to grow, spark conversation and ignite impactful ideas in our community,” said Foundation President and CEO Peggy O’Shea. “Heath is a nationally recognized thought leader in helping people to switch their thinking. He is exactly what our community needs to make a switch and make it stick.”
ABOUT HEATH: Heath is the co-author of “Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard,” which debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists. The Heath brothers previously co-wrote the critically acclaimed book “Made to Stick,” which was named the Best Business Book of the Year. The latest Heath brothers’ book is “Decisive: How to Make Better Decisions in Life and Work.” Heath is a senior fellow at Duke University’s CASE center, which supports entrepreneurs who are fighting for social good.
ABOUT THE PRE-EVENT: Before Heath’s lecture, a 6 p.m. interactive pre-event will be hosted in the fieldhouse. The innovative pre-event follows the buzz of The Foundation’s #switchyourthinking2014 social media campaign where community members will share stories of how they’ve switched their thinking about their community, tagging others to do the same. The pre-event will feature some of the most innovative thinkers in our community – those who switched their thinking to make positive impact in our community. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with, be inspired by and connect with these thinkers. Other pre-event activities will include TEDx Utica founders capturing residents’ #switchyourthinking video stories as well as an oversized post-it note wall where attendees will share how they have or will switch their thinking.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER SERIES: Heath is the fourth speaker in The Foundation’s Speaker Series. Previous speakers have included urban theorist Richard Florida, education reformist Geoffrey Canada and New Jersey senator Cory Booker. Last year’s Speaker Series featuring Florida, drew a crowd of about 1,800 residents. The series –sponsored by The Foundation and its Corporate Partners – intends to spark conversation and action in the community.
