Summerland 2015 Tour hits Saranac stage
Saranac Brewery has had no shortage of amazing shows this year. We’re all still getting over our 2 day Moe. hangovers, and the party are starting right back up with the likes of some of our favorite rock and alternative bands! The question is, will you be there??? Summerland 2015 Tour features Everclear, Fuel, The Toadies and American Hi-Fi. All the action takes place at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Friday, June 26 at FX Matt Brewing Courtyard, 830 Varick St., Utica.
General admission tickets are just $27.50, AND they include a digital download of Everclear’s brand new album, “Black Is the New Black”. Here’s what Amazon.com had to say about the album:
“Bombastic, hard-driving, generation-spanning rock n’ roll with instantly memorable, sharp-as-hell hooks propel Everclear’s new studio album, Black Is The New Black. Muscular but melodic, this is the sound of a band driven and united by singular, intense purpose. At an average of three-minutes each, the songs rip forward with palpable swagger, supercharged by a mix of autobiographical exorcism and narrative storytelling, from the gut and throat of Everclear’s singer, guitarist, co-founder and songwriter – Art Alexakis. Black Is The New Black is a diverse and timeless sounding collection, without ballads and without nostalgia. This is a heavy guitar record.”
If you have $125 to spare, you can purchase a meet and greet ticket, earning you some face time with Everclear. You also get a personal photograph with Everclear, and an autographed limited edition tour poster, and a meet and greet laminate. What else could you ask for?
Fuel is back in the game, and we’re so glad to see them in full form. Frontman Brett Scallions just got done doing a solo acoustic tour recently, and reviews were stellar. (He played Saratoga’s Putnam Den a few months ago, and the show rocked.) I had the personal pleasure of catching Fuel when they opened up for Aerosmith back in 2001, making me a new fan. If you aren’t familiar with Fuel, they have had hits such as “Hemorrhage (In My Hands),” and “Shimmer.”
The Toadies are a personal favorite, prominently played on Albany’s WEQX for my formative years as a tween and teenager. Their addition to Summerland 2015 is a great one! After a 5 year hiatus from 2001-2006, the boys from Fort Worth, TX are back at it, hitting the road and supporting their albums. Their most popular song, “Possum Kingdom”, still gets regular airplay, standing the test of time for over 20 years. (Yes, I feel old writing that.) Their album, “Rubberneck” has just been re-released on Kirtland Records, including 5 bonus tracks.
Boston band, American Hi-Fi is no stranger to the radio, either. They have a stellar collection of radio hits, including “Flavor of the Weak,” “The Art of Losing,” and “The Breakup Song.” The band has some interesting ties to a wide spectrum of musical acts. 2 members are also in Miley Cyrus’ band, and drummer Stacy Jones used to drum for Letters to Cleo and Veruca Salt. The band is now supporting their newest album, “Blood and Lemonade” which was released on Rude Records in September 2014.
So, grab your friends, get your cash situation straightened out and head over to the Saranac Brewery on 830 Varick Street in beautiful Utica, NY. (Make sure you don’t park on the street overnight- as I learned the hard way after Friday night’s Moe. show. Thanks Utica Parking Enforcement.) The doors open at 6 pm, and the show starts at 7. Tickets are still available at ticketfly.com. Enjoy the brews and the tunes Friday night!
