Outlaw Music Festival packs Montage
Willie Nelson & Blackbird presented the first ever Outlaw Music Festival recently at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA. There was a warm welcome as the Scranton residents and local law enforcement had anticipated large crowds for the live music. With the leaves beginning to change, the smell of food truck fare and alcohol in the air, vendors were set up with their wares, art, food & alcohol.
Cabinet gave a nice introduction that began things with Miss Molly Lee Ann Womack who loves doing the show although, as she mentioned, it was a little different of a gig for her. She had to improvise most songs & did so really well. The second stage was just a short stroll to hear some more entertainment. Where local band cabinet and friends did special outlaw tribute sets JP Biondo and Pappy play tribute to Lefty Frizzell, Mazer and Kearney play Hank, JP and Mazer play Merle. The acts were full of exuberance while playing tribute to some of Country Music’s Greats.
Chris Robinson Brotherhood rocked out. Lead singer Chris Robinson threw down on the harmonica and killer guitar licks, while Adam MacDougallon on the piano and keyboard made some intense faces while playing the keys.
Sheryl Crow threw her harmonica and picks to the audience of adoring fans. She sang her hits, starting with “Everyday is a Winding Road” and engaged the audience fitting it in nicely to her set.
Neil Young shredded it with Willie’s son ( Lukas Nelson). Willie Nelson opened with Whiskey River to which he received an uproarious applause. The air was filled with energy and the crowds kept growing after each act. The overall experience was astounding. It was an epic evening of old-timer music as they shared the exuberance and love of their music with the audience young and young at heart alike.
