Michael Ray plays to sold out crowd
A Saturday night of cold temps didn’t keep the fans from coming out to get their country music fix. Kegs Canal Side Concert Venue along with Back II Back Entertainment knows just what the fans like. And, that is Country heart throb Michael Ray along with Levi Hummon and our local country boys Custom Taylor Band. There wasn’t an empty seat or space at Kegs. Fans braved the elements and did a little shivering while they waited for the doors to open but it wasn’t long before the music warmed them up. We spoke to a few fans that said they drove a couple of hours just see their favorite artist.
Chris Taylor and the Custom Taylor Band took to the stage that was setup in the bar area. As the crowd grew massive within minutes space was becoming limited. Chris Taylor captured the fans attention as they came through the door. Being his band is well known for opening for many bigger bands over the years he has no trouble in the entertainment department. If you weren’t familiar with the band before I’m sure he gained a few new fans. Custom Taylor does mainly cover music but also has a CD that showcases their own original music.

After an hour of nonstop music and dancing from fans who couldn’t even get close to the stage while they waited a few short minutes for Levi Hummon to come out. His band and energy was just a tip of what was to come from headliner Michael Ray. Hummon spoke about how he grew up around music with singer/song writers that followed close with the roots of his family. He was just down to earth kind of guy that had no problem getting the crowd involved – shaking hands and even taking selfies which was a huge hit with the fans. Touring with Michael Ray these two know how to put on a concert.
Set list: “Old Me,” “Chain Reaction,” “Numbers,” “Don’t Waste The Night,” “Days/Mexico, Stupid,” “Make It Love,” “Counting Drops,” “Love You Hate You Miss You”
Michael Ray who is from Florida was quick to say “it’s cold up here in New York, but WOW do you guys know how to tailgate!” Ray got personal with his fans and talked about his tattoo on his arm in honor of his grandfather who also inspired him to get into music. Ray asked if anyone was in the crowd that has served in the military and a few screamed out and he thanked them. Ray rising above and beyond on the music charts has also worked with several other country artists. The guy has so much energy on the stage that it just puts the crowd into a dance frenzy. Among the fans was a youngster in the front row, he reached and reached for the artist on stage. After several handshakes and high 5’s it wasn’t long before the show ended “Ray” reached down and asked him do you know this song? With a smile and a nod Michael Ray pulled him up onto the stage to help him sing “Wagon Wheel” The little boys face probably hurt from smiling so much. This was a concert for the record books and if you missed it and they came back to our neck of the woods be sure to get your tickets.
