Pizza, local nightlife, freely flowing libations and two of Utica’s favorite out of town performers all converge to ‘send you on your way’ to bliss, as Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root returns on Friday, Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. to Lukin’s Brick Oven Pizza on Varick Street. Sweetening the deal is the rock bottom admission price of $5 and regional looper-extraordinaire, Randy Niles as the opening act! That low cover charge is going to give you plenty of room to fully experience Lukins, from the great beers on tap to the well drinks and wine selection to the innovative and fun menu!  This great show is brought to you by the Utica Music and Arts Festival and Blue Moon Management.

Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root fame is a returning national performer to the area. We know what we like here, and one of those things is an artist who likes to come back to visit. The Glabicki/Utica legacy is a strong one and though it’s been a while since he was last here, it is always a great show enjoyed by all in attendance. Glabicki’s music has been a part of the social landscape since the early 1990s and his commitment to growing, developing and touring has kept the creativity strong in his efforts as a solo performer.  Still drawing on all of the great elements that made Rusted Root stand out of the pack, Glabicki’s set is sure to be liberally seasoned with world music flavors and beats to roll your hips and dance about to.  His work ethic and commitment to soulful singer songwriter material that is not your average guy with a guitar makes him a truly great pairing with the night’s special guest opening performer, as well.  As you can see, a smartly booked show segues itself!

Listen to I’m a Take You

Randy Niles is fresh off a tour that took him all over the east coast. His masterful social networking and brand marketing has kept us all jovially informed and if you aren’t following Randy on Facebook and Twitter, I highly suggest you do so. An artist as open and giving of himself like Randy is seeking to deepen the connection to his friends and fans at all times and wants to include you on his adventures of global domination!  He at least wants you to know if he’s been arrested for sleeping in a parking lot so you can come save his traveling troubadour behind. But basically the Niles story goes: he enters a space, lays down some technically precise looping with a big fat groove, he layers a soulful vocal over the top letting you know the man’s got range, and adds the room full of listeners to his ever expanding fan family.  It’s difficult at best to watch a Randy Niles set and not be impressed and convinced that this is something different. The energy of the person translates right through the sounds and lets you know you want more of that in your life.  I’m looking forward to that experience for you, newcomers!  For the rest of you in the fan family, I’m ready for a great reunion on show night!

It’s important for a local festival like the Utica Music and Arts Festival to keep fostering the music scene all year and not just leading up to show time. We all come together to highlight and nurture the talent we have here, the quality fans we offer, and the venues we enjoy. This show seeks to give thanks to all who helped make the 2014 UMAF successful and to help people who haven’t gotten involved to get in the loop.  Pun intended. As always, the show couldn’t happen without the support of Lukin’s and you can show appreciation by getting on out for the night!  Doors are at 9 p.m. with music starting at 10 p.m., but you’ll want to get in early for a bite to eat and to secure a spot in the always lively Lukins.  Check the menu before hand to plan your best attack.  Let’s get moving, Utica!
