John 5 – ‘Season Of The Witch’ – Album Review
John 5’s new instrumental release, entitled “Season Of The Witch,” brings out the best from this guitar virtuoso. “Season of the Witch” not only features that deep, dark heavy metal sound that John has become known for through his work with Rob Zombie, but he also shows his diversity with both sound and style. Tracks like “Making Monsters” and the title track have that industrial metal feel that John 5 does better than any other, but others like “Now Fear This,” have more of an 80s metal style and “10 Triple D” really showcases his melodic and powerful guitar soloing skills. Other tracks on this album are reminiscent of the styles of western swing, jazz fusion and Spanish flamenco guitar, which really round out this full length instrumental album. As an added feature, John has released videos for several of the tracks to make this album a feast for both the eyes and the ears. As John 5 himself has stated, “Music is so visual nowadays …” Collectively, these videos have amassed over a million views.
Although, he is best known for his work with industrial metal macabre icon, Rob Zombie, John 5 has also played with the likes of Marilyn Manson and David Lee Roth as well as serving stints as a session guitarist for Paul Stanley, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rod Stewart and a host of others. His music writing credits include artists such as Ricky Martin, Garbage, Avril Lavigne and many more. “Season Of The Witch” marks the seventh solo release from the guitar virtuoso and his most diverse one to date. In support of this thirteen track album, John 5 and his band, the Creatures (featuring bassist Ian Ross and drummer Rodger Carter) are touring the country right now.
