Great NYS Fair Guide 2018


The Great NYS Fair is like your favorite county fair pumped up on steroids, served with a side of Popeye’s spinach, ready to knock you out with amazing performances, agricultural shows and vendors. For many farmers in our great state, this is the BIG show, the winner-takes-all bragging right for the rest of the year, and with the fair starting Wednesday, Aug. 22 and lasting more than a week, there is more than enough to keep you and the family occupied. The Fairgrounds is located at 581 State Fair Blvd., Syracuse. Tickets are $6 if buy them in advance through Today (Aug. 21) but will go up to $10 at the gate. Wade Shows Midway
Wade Shows is North America’s premier carnival company and their unique spectacular rides and attractions, unparalleled customer amenities and service-oriented staff are the reasons they set the standard in the industry. Hit the midway during the Fair from 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m.-midnight Friday through Sunday; and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Labor Day. Click here for midway information.


Dairy Products Building
A moo-moo here, a moo-moo there that’s the only way to describe the home of everything milk and dairy at the Fair which is meant to highlight the importance of the dairy industry within New York’s farm economy. While there you can check out the world famous butter sculpture made from 800 pounds of creamy New York butter, have a 25¢ glass of cold white or chocolate milk, sample delicious cheese and yogurt, or have a yummy in your tummy milk shake.


Taste NY is the state’s effort to link consumers to the best products made and grown right here in New York State. Visit Taste NY now inside the Horticulture Building for free samples of food and beverage products while you meet the people behind those products. If you like something, you can buy it right then and there. And if you come to the Fair more than once, visit Taste NY again because the vendors change daily. You’ll be sure to find something new for your kitchen!


Taste NY Food Truck Competition
Food trucks are all the rage, and the Great New York State Fair is searching for the very best of them. The Food Truck Competition from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1 & 2, will bring 20 food trucks from all over the state to the streets around Chevy Court. They will prepare their most delicious and most creative entrée for the judges, who will crown a champion. The trucks will also make $3 samples of the entrees available to public and the public will also vote for their favorite. New this year! Want to try all the Food Trucks? If you do, keep the voting ballots from all the trucks and take them to the State Fair Food Truck and five lucky winners will win lifetime passes to the Fair!


Max Power
Max Power a walking, talking, 9-foot-tall robot and his monster truck named NITRO will be strolling around taking selfies and saying hi near the Times Square area between the International Building and Midway. Daily appearances: 2, 4 & 6 p.m.


Potato Booth
There will still be the $1 white and sweet potatoes with all the toppings to eat located in the Horticulture Building.




Kachunga & The Alligator Show
From deep in the swamps of Florida comes Kachunga, a real American Bushman who dares to step foot into the wet domain of the Alligator. Most people have never seen an alligator up close! Kachunga and the Alligator is educational, funny and safe to view. Located in the Times Square area between the International Building and Midway. Daily show times: 1:45, 3:45 & 5:45 p.m.


The Jolly Jester High Dive Show
This comical high dive show is sure to make a splash for the entire family! Dives up to 82 feet will have everyone at the edge of their seats. A daily special 8:00pm show will consist of a fire dive, which involves lighting one of the stuntman on fire! You won’t want to miss this! Located in the Family Fun Zone area near the Youth Building. Daily show times: 12:30, 3:30 & 8 p.m.


Sesame Street Live: C Is for Celebration
Sesame Street Live: C is For Celebration will take the stage at the Art & Home Center’s Empire Theater for five days, performing two shows per day, from August 22 to 26. Your friends from Sesame Street are throwing a celebration and the whole neighborhood is invited. Join in the excitement, laughter and music of Sesame Street Live! C is for Celebration. Sing and dance along with Elmo. Marvel at Abby’s magical moments. Shake it up with Cookie Monster. Be amazed as Super Grover flies and move to the music with Rosita. Sesame Street Live! C is for Celebration is what friends, family and forever memories are all about! Tickets to each show are on sale now from the Fair’s official online ticket seller, Each ticket is $5 plus fees of 23 cents. All adults and all children, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter. Tickets not sold online as of midnight the day before each show will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Art & Home Center office as a cash-only purchase. Butter & Cheese Sculptures
Visit the Dairy Products Building to see hundreds of pounds of butter turned into art to mark the 50th anniversary of this State Fair tradition. For the visually impaired we also have a hands-on clay model of the butter sculpture at the Dairy Princess Booth. You can also see blocks of New York State cheese carved into artwork before your eyes.


Coronas Circus
With the Hollywood Racing Pigs and Giraffic Menagerie Petting Zoo. The Coronas family are 4th generation of circus performers working in Europe until 1951 bringing their show to America in 1952. Going strong after 60 years and still innovating and bringing the highest quality shows and equipment to the American Public. Located in the Family Fun Zone near the Youth Building.

SkyRiver Butterfly Exhibit
The SkyRiver Butterfly exhibit in the Horticultural building of the New York State Fair is stunning!  These Exotic Butterflies are from all over the world both domestic and overseas such as the Costa Rica’s electric Blue Morpho, the wide-winged Paper Kite of Asia, the white spotted Postman of Africa and the Scarlet Mormon of the Philippines. Upon entering the 70 foot exhibit, lined with blooming flowers, the fairgoer receives a feeding stick and the butterflies will land on your hand to feed off the nectar on the stick.  Truly breath-taking.  This exhibit also has a serious side, educating everyone on the need to protect the habitat of these delightful creatures if we want them for our children.  The exhibit closes at 9:00 so make sure to see it before the end of your day.  The best time is first thing in the morning when the butterflies are most active and best of all, admission is just $2. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.




i-Flip Aerial Show
i-Flip is the ultimate aerial show.  This quadruple based structure, with all its accessories, was the result of intensive creative research.  It places, once again, Milord Entertainment the leader in producing Acrobatic Thrill Shows!   This incredible 25 minute show contains: Aerial Bungee, Tramp-Wall, Sphere, Power Track and more. To conclude this spectacular show, a 60 foot death-defying High Fall into a stuntman airbag. Located in the Family Fun Zone near the Youth Building. Daily show times at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.


Kiddieland Midway
Look for the Kiddleland Midway located between the main midway and the New York Experience Festival Group.  An area for the younger crowd, set apart from the main midway in which families can relax and let their little ones try age-appropriate rides without the noise and excitement of the busier, older crowds. Make no mistake this area is still filled with exciting rides, games and attractions!


Taste NY Wine, Beer & Spirits Village at the Colonnades
The Fair’s Wine Court has moved back to the Colonnade, the columned area between the Dairy Products and Science and Industry buildings. As always, the area will be filled with many of New York’s best wines, but it doesn’t end there. You’ll be able to get mixed drinks made with spirits distilled in New York, or a craft beer from the state’s ever-growing selection, or even a glass of hard cider. The Village provides a delicious demonstration of the amazing expansion of wines, spirits, craft beers, and ciders, all under the Taste NY brand.


Arch Dragons
These animatronic dragons take stilt walking to the next level with wing spans of 9 feet, sounds and life like features! The Arch Dragons will make their daily appearances near the Sports activity Area in front of the Toyota Coliseum. Daily appearances: 1, 3 & 5 p.m.



Sand Sculpture
The amazing sand sculpture will return for a tenth year in the new Expo Center Building. This year you can watch 180 tons of sand (that’s 360,000 pounds) sculpted into a work of art by the people from Team Sandtastic.






The Ninja Experience
The Ninja Experience brings parkour, tricking and extreme martial arts to The State Fair. This team of martial arts experts has been wowing audiences around the world with high-flying, jaw-dropping performances that showcase an extraordinary display of extreme breaking and theatrics! Located in the Times Square area between the International Building and Midway. Daily Show Times: 1, 3 & 5 p.m.
