Daniel Barden Highland Mudfest


MUDFEST5What started out as a tragedy that none of us will forget has turned into something special remembering Daniel Barden, a first grader who lost his life in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. The Daniel Barden Highland Mudfest takes places this Saturday, April 25 at MKJ Farm, 6844 W. Hughes Rd., Deansboro. The Daniel Barden Highland Mudfest consists of 5K, 5 Mile & Kid’s Run.

5 Mile ‘Moor’ Mud Run

This run is for the tough and rugged athletes. Be prepared to be challenged! For the highly competitive group we will have the 5 mile ‘Moor’ Mud Run which will be a timed event. This event is a longer and MUDRUNmore difficult version of the 5K Mud Run. Not for the faint hearted or out of shape crowd.

5k Mud Run

This 5K race will be a challenge to the fittest of athletes, yet rewarding to all. The course will have unique natural obstacles with a Highland Games theme. Although kilts are not required, we strongly encourage them, in the spirit of Highland Games! While finishing would be considered an accomplishment, time and a place finish will not be a factor. Teams are encouraged, as this awesome challenge is best enjoyed among friends! This MUDFEST6challenging 5K event in which takes you up and down hills, through the woods all the while being in a beautiful country setting. Yes, there will be mud, it’s in April. Yes, it may be cold and wet. Please wear a kilt with possibly some undergarments, a comfortable shirt, and sneakers you won’t mind getting muddy!

Make sure to check out the entertainment that has been line up for the day starting with the dancers from the Johnston School of Irish Dance at 9:30 a.m. in the barn with Blarney Rebel taking the stage at 10:30 a.m. Also, rocking the stage will be Grit n’ Grace, Showtime, Alternate Universe and Crushing June.

All proceeds will benefit scholarships for 8th graders who will be taking a 78 mile canoe/hike in the Adirondacks for 10 days. Each student will also pick a charity to donate too. So, come out and help raise money for the kids and remember all the victims that were taken away from their loved ones.
