Charlie’s Place! … A Daytime Cheers
As soon as you walk into Charlie’s you feel like you walked into your Granma’s kitchen and you feel like you are home. Customers lined the counter enjoying their breakfast while reading the paper or mingling with the other guests. According to the owner Karen aka “Charlie” Knauth you rarely see a strange face. It’s a small diner filled with hometown people and lots of families. Knauth helps you feel at home by greeting all her customers by saying hello and making her customers feel like they are more than a guest.
Once you sit down for your breakfast and try the food you would think that your Granma was cooking up these delicious dishes. We sampled many different delights: Blueberry pancakes … just like how my Granma made them … large and fluffy with plump, juicy blueberries mixed throughout the pancakes; Home fries cooked to perfection … crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; biscuits smothered with a thick sausage gravy; S’more pancakes with chocolate chips, marshmallows and graham cracker pieces that once you add syrup it gives it just the right balance; and let’s save the best for last the stuffed baked potato which only can be described as pure yumminess! The baked potato is stuffed with scrambled eggs and bacon with cheddar cheese melted on top served with sour cream and salsa. Another table saw this delight and asked all about it and said all these years coming here I never knew this was on the menu and couldn’t wait to come back and try it. The food will not disappoint you and make sure you come with an appetite.
Charlie’s also serves an array of lunch items from Roast pork, fish fry’s, fresh hamburgers, homemade soups, salads and sandwiches. And, make sure you save room for their homemade desserts.
One of the signs hanging along the diner says it best: “There’s no place like Charlie’s Place”
