Castlewood Cafe

Castlewood Cafe - The Fuze Magazine (2)Some of you might remember Castlewood Cafe at their former location on Burrstone Road, but the daughters have taken over the cafe and moved it into their new location nestled in a bustling plaza on Champlin Ave. in Utica. You will be greeted by the original lady statue as soon as you walk. There is plenty of seating that can handle just about any size party in their spacious dining room. If you don’t feel like waiting for a table they offer the iconic diner style counter for you to eat. We love the fact that anyone can walk in at any time and order breakfast which is a real treat, especially when you are craving pancakes for dinner. You can tell they have put so much love into their menu and making sure there is something for everyone even the little tikes with their Mickey Mouse pancakes. The variety is endless and you won’t leave there hungry. And, we can’t forget to mention how we were treated like family not just a customer there. Everyone was so friendly not just the staff, but the other customers that were dining there too. It was a treat!

Fried Pickles – If you are a pickle lover these little bad boys are for you. This large portion is filled with dill pickle chips that are lightly coated with a dill flavored bread mixture. The dill shines through in every bite. This little chip stood up to the frying and coated it perfectly. The pickle held its juiciness and was paired with a creamy ranch dipping sauce. Eaters beware – you can’t just stop at one.

Fried Stuffed Meatballs – A sinful combination of homemade meatballs, cheese coming from all directions and a sweet but chunky sauce. You can taste the homemade ingredients in every bite. This beautiful – almost too beautiful to eat dish comes with three meatballs that are stuffed with cheese that is topped with a creamy blend of ricotta cheese, marinara sauce and a layer of mozzarella cheese. And, we can’t forget the “pool” of sauce that is there to soak up the yumminess.

Greek Chicken Salad Wrap – This light and most refreshing wrap is loaded with grilled chicken that is seasoned to perfection that is paired with the crunch of romaine lettuce and the sweetness of the black olives. It all comes together with a creamy Caesar dressing that holds it all together. The herbed wrap gives it just the right to kick to take the sandwich to the next level. This wrap is so packed it has the “insides” pouring out. The wrap was served with their infamous handmade potato chips. They were nice and crispy, salted just right and you can taste the realness of the potato. They should be package up and sold in the store – they are that good!

Blake’s Mac & Cheese Burger – How can you go wrong with mac & cheese, a juicy hamburger and a hearty bun that has been paired together? This heavenly creation is a thick, juicy burger that tastes like it came right off your grill that is topped with their silky, smooth homemade mac & cheese. Every bite is an explosion of flavor. The cheesy blend elevates the burger to a new level. Make sure you ask for extra napkins because you are going to need them – the juices flows right onto to your fingertips. The burger is served with their steak fries that easily stands up to the burger.

All I have to say about their desserts is you can taste the love in every bite! We tried their Key Lime Pie that balanced the sweetness, tartness and creaminess that is known for with this heavenly creation. And, oh my oh my their chocolate cake. The cake is beyond moist is paired with the best frosting I have ever had. It didn’t over power the cake – it enhanced it.
