Bryan Howell and The Standalones are variously described as similar to The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Weezer and The Who with singer/songwriter/guitarist Bryan Howell mixing energy and passion with various classic ’50s and ’60s influences to craft songs with tight pop/rock hooks.
The opening song off of the upstate NY musician’s Lightning Through My Soul EP, “Why Oh Why,” has received airplay on Little Steven’s Underground Garage Sirius/XM channel as a song by one of the “Coolest Unsigned Acts In the World”, and the rest of the EP has also garner airplay and rave reviews on independent Internet and FM radio outlets around America, England, Sweden and Japan.
Mixing ’50s rock, ’60s garage, ’70s power pop/New Wave, classic rock and modern indie rock influences, Bryan Howell’s music sounds both fresh and instantly familiar at the same time. Influenced by artists as diverse as Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, The Knack, Elvis Presley and The Black Keys, Howell seamlessly melds big guitars, intimate lyrics and triumphant choruses together into infectious pop-rock.
Supported by his stellar band The Standalones, featuring seasoned players Greg Baum on bass/vocals, Brandon Brault on drums/vocals, and Matthew Copperwheat on 2nd guitar and vocals, Howell and his supporting musicians can shift gears from driving rock to whisper-quiet and back at a moment’s notice, never failing to connect with and excite an audience. With their mix of thrilling dynamics, selfless interplay, and Howell’s focused songwriting, the unit has already proven itself a must-see live act in its relatively short time together. It’s Straightforward, old-fashioned rock and roll, written and played with a new heart and vitality.
