Barden Mudfest ’16 honors victims


PIC2_oWhat started out as a tragedy that none of us will forget has turned into something special remembering Daniel Barden, a first grader who lost his life in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. The Daniel Barden Highland Mudfest takes places at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 30 at MKJ Farm, 6844 W. Hughes Rd., Deansboro. The Daniel Barden Highland Mudfest consists of 5K, 5 Mile & Kid’s Run. Not only are they honoring Daniel Barden but all the victims that lost their life with 26 log torches throughout the course.


Race Details
5 mile timed run starts at 9 a.m. and is $70
The 5 mile timed course is an extension of the 5k and is very rugged and challenging, unique terrain, lots of rolling hills and military style obstacles. It is perfect for the competitive crowd
5k un-timed run is $60 with heats starting at 10 a.m. and they run every 15 min until last heat at 11:15 a.m.
5k is more laid back, NOT timed, focusing on having fun and team work
The Kids run has 3 heats: 11 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.; and is $15

Every runner will receive one free Saranac beverage or their famous root beer
Ray Brothers BBQ and Michael’s Restaurant will be serving up some of their special treats
With it still being April in Central New York you never know what the weather will be like. Well, they have you covered with their huge fire pit. It will keep you nice and toasty.
Warm water. Yes, we said warm water. Who wants to clean off the mud with cold water?

There will be live music at two different locations that will include Showtime, Grit N Grace, Simple Props and CT based bands Alternate Universe & Third Stone Blues. They will also have a DJ along the course


All proceeds will benefit scholarships for 8th graders who will be taking a 78 mile canoe/hike in the Adirondacks for 10 days. Each student will also pick a charity to donate too. So, come out and help raise money for the kids and remember all the victims that were taken away from their loved ones.
