Ahoy! Pirates take over Sylvan Beach

 

Pirates2This weekend at Sylvan Beach you can come and enjoy all ‘yar’ favorite things about pirate culture with none of that pesky scurvy, chapped lips, or well, piracy. This community-wide event brings people and pirates of all ages to the Sylvan Beach to enjoy pirate-related activities, costumes, food and drink, crafts, music and much more. Pirate’s Weekend takes place Thursday, July 16 through Sunday, July 19 in Sylvan Beach.

The weekend’s festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16 at the pavilion and at 6 p.m. the mayor will officially sanction Pirate’s Weekend and participate in the Raising of the Pirate Flag.

The “adult fun” kicks off Friday, July 17 with more adult-geared entertainment with the Best of the Beach Pirate’s Grog Pub Crawl, a Pirate Grog Competition beginning at 7 p.m. There will also be a “Dunk the Wench” booth at Sunset Grill, live music, vendors, antiques, and various entertainment venues throughout the Village Park.

pirates-weekend-30Don’t worry they didn’t forget about the kids. Saturday, July 18, will be the Family Fun Activity Day beginning with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and tons of fun things for your “little pirates” to do. Some of the fun scheduled for the day are things such as “Make Your Own Pirate Hat,” “Pirate’s Booty Treasure Hunt,” “How to be a Pirate” class with Captain Jack, and the Carbone Pirate Parade, which participants in the “How to be a Pirate” class are welcome to join. The evening ends with a fireworks display on the beach which starts around 9:30 p.m.

Pirates Weekend concludes Sunday, July 19 with its Activity Day starting with a 5K Pirate Run/Walk to benefit the “Wounded Warrior Program.” There will also be a Sand Castle Competition, a Pirate Ship Boat Decorating Contest at the pier, a Best Wing Competition, and that be only a swab’s share of the booty… Arrr you ready?

 

Here is a complete schedule of events:

 

Thursday, July 16

5:30 p.m. – Weekend kick off in the village pavilion with Band. The Rebel broadcasting live until 7:30 p.m.

6 p.m. – The Mayor will officially sanction Pirates Weekend & will participate in the Raising of the Pirate flag.

6:10 p.m. – We’ve heard some nasty rumors that pirate wenches were out to kidnap the mayor for ransom! All proceeds go to charity. (Last year the Mayor Donated $400 to the Sylvan Beach Volunteer Fire Department)

Pirate Specials at each establishment!

 

Friday, July 17

5 p.m. – 95X will be broadcasting live on location from 5-7 p.m.

7 p.m. – Officially kicks off the Pirate’s Grog Competition! Each establishment to have 1 oz samples of their signature grog available to sample. Participants will crawl to each location and sample each grog and text in to vote for their favorite.

There will be specials at each business with various entertainments.

Saturday, July 18

8-10 a.m. – Wake up with Nice N’ Easy breakfast specials and 93Q playing your favorite hits from the 93Q Boom Box in the Nice N’ Easy Parking Lot. Browse from tons of vendors with all sorts of goods and treasure!

10 a.m. – Pirate’s Booty Treasure Hunt on the beach at 15th Ave; dig for buried gold coins and redeem for a toy at the “treasure chest.”

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sylvan Beach Vol. Fire Dept. Centennial Celebration with community activities for young and old in the park.

10:30 a.m. – Crafts Corner features make Your Own Pirate Hat in park pavilion area 10:30 a.m.-Noon; get your face painted and visit our vendors in the park!

Noon – “How to Be a Pirate” class hosted in the pavilion area by Captain Jack.

1 p.m. – Carbone Pirate Parade begins on the south end of the village and moves north, Matey’s who complete Pirate Class are welcome to walk the Parade Route with Capt. Jack. Ted and Amy will emcee out of the 93Q Boom Box in the public parking lot!

2:30 p.m. – Top 40 Music Live from the pavilion until 4:30; play “Dunk the Wench.”

3:30 p.m. – Kathy’s Guest Houses & Lori’s Lake View Cottages are proud to sponsor the EARTH Club (Electronic Archaeology Recovery Treasure Hunters!) as they teach you and your family how to recover lost artifacts using metal detectors! The EARTH club will bring metal detectors for your kids to use and they’ll even bring some lost ancient items that they’ve uncovered in their journeys! Listen to stories and watch as history is unearthed. The show will take place from 3:30 – 5 p.m. at the end of 13th Ave on the beach!

8:30 p.m. – Family Bonfire on the beach at 15th Ave with music playing from Boom Box. Free music from 93Q and s’mores for kids. Till 9:30 p.m.

9:30 p.m. – Relax and enjoy the Fireworks Show on the beach!

 

Sunday, July 19

10 a.m. – 5K – Pirate Run/Walk throughout our beautiful village to benefit “Wounded Warrior Program”.

11 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Sand Castle Competition; participants must register here by Noon for rules and information.

11:30 a.m. – Join Flex Appeal‘s Annaliese Clements at the gazebo in the central park for a free pirate jig Zumba class!

10 a.m. – 5 .pm. Sylvan Beach Vol. Fire Dept. Centennial Celebration with community activities for young and old in the park.

Morning/Afternoon Fishing Derby – East Shore Bait & Tackle a will be hosting a family fishing derby! You will be able to register at their location.

11 a.m. – Pirate Ship- Boat decorating contest along the pier. Decorate your boat as the pirates did.

1-3 p.m. – At your own pace “BEST WING” competition. Visitors will crawl through each establishment and sample, then text in to vote for their favorite.
